| Event Information The Ranger Triathlon is a USAT sanctioned event that is being hosted to benefit the Texas School for the Deaf Physical Education Programs. The purpose of the Ranger Triathlon will be to offer kids ages 7 years and older and “first time adults” the opportunity to experience a multi-sport event in a safe and positive environment. While competition is always part of any race, it is not the primary focus of this race. The main focus for the participants their families and the community is to have FUN! NOTE: Younger age competitors will be considered on a case by case basis and compete along with the 7 to 8 year old age group if approved. The race Directors reserve the right to reject any participants. Event Location The race will take place at the Texas School for the Deaf campus located at 1102 South Congress Ave. Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 8:00 am. Access to the campus will be available via the Congress Ave gate beginning at 6:15 AM to participants and will close to all traffic at 7:45 AM. No public parking on campus will be allowed after 7:45 AM. Distance Juniors (7-10) 100m Swim/3 mile Bike/. 5 mile Run Seniors (11-14) 200m Swim/6 mile Bike/1 mile Run Adults (15+) 200m Swim/6 mile Bike/2 mile Run Age Groups Individuals: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18 Adults will be grouped in 10-year increments: 19-29, 30-39, etc. The age of a participant follows USAT rules and will be determined by age as of December 31, 2008, not by actual age on race day. Awards All youth participants, ages 7-17 will receive a finishing medal. Awards will be given for 1st thru 3rd places for all age groups male and female. Registration You can register on-line at My Race Registration or in person (bring photo id and USAT member card)during packet pick-up at Jack & Adams Bycicles the day before the race. Please note: There are no refunds, transfers or rollovers provided. There will be no race morning registration. Registration fees are $25.00 for Juniors and Seniors (ages 7-14) and $40.00 for Adults (ages 15 and older) until April 25, 2008 12:00 pm CST. Registration during packet pick-up if space allows will be an additional $5.00 per entry (youth or adult). This race is only open to the first 300 participants, so register early. Packet Pick-up Packet pick-up will be at Jack and Adam’s Bicycles outside deck, 1210 Barton Springs Rd. Austin, Texas 78704 on April 26, 2008 from 11:00 am to 6:00pm. There will be no race day packet pick-up. Each participant will need to pick up his or her own packet and sign a liability form. You may not pick-up another participant’s packet. Bring your photo ID and USAT membership card to packet pick-up. If you are not a current member of USAT you will be required to purchase a 1 day license at packet pick-up for $10.00 (ages 18 and older) or a year membership for youths ages 7-17 for $5.00. Course Visit our Course page for course map and information. Transition Area Transition area will be open from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM. The transition area is where the athlete’s bike and gear will be racked. Athletes will not be allowed to ride their bikes in the transition area at any time. Only the athletes will be allowed in the transition at all times. Parents/friends are prohibited from entering the transition area. Volunteers will be on hand to assist the athletes. Competitors will not be allowed to remove their bikes and/or gear from the transition area until the last participant begins the run portion of the race. This is not only for safety but also for the respect of all the athletes still competing. Pre-race Check In Body marking, bike and helmet inspections will take place before athletes enter the Transition area. All participants are required to get body marked and have their bike and helmet inspected. Helmets must be ANSI, SNELL or CPSC approved only. Participants without a helmet will NOT be allowed to compete. When transition closes at 7:45, there will also be a brief race orientation meeting to introduce everyone to the course. All participants are required to attend this meeting. Rules Helmets must be worn and fastened at all times while on the bike. All participants will be responsible for complying with USAT rules. If there are any questions about the rules you can find a copy of USAT rules by visiting the USAT Webpage. The rules will also be briefly covered during the orientation meeting prior to the race. Parking There will be plenty of parking available at the Texas School for the Deaf campus. If you choose to park on TSD grounds, please keep in mind that from 7:30 am until the last bike rider has completed the course (approximately 10 am) all roads and parking lots in and out of TSD will be closed. There is NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS DUE TO SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS! Once the last cyclist has completed the bike course vehicles will be allowed to exit the grounds. There are other areas outside and around TSD that you will be able to park your vehicles that are within walking distances. Please consider this if you expect to need to leave early (Elizabeth Street). Weather The race will take place in rain or shine, unless the conditions are severe enough to warrant safety concerns. Should this occur and depending on the conditions the race start could be delayed until conditions pass or the race could be cancelled. Due to expenses, no refunds will be provided. Volunteers Any and all volunteers are welcome. This is a great opportunity for high school and college students to help out.
